PENGARUH PH DAN SUHU FERMENTASI TERHADAP PRODUKSI ETANOL HASIL HIDROLISIS JERAMI PADI
Abstract
Bioetanol,  salah satu bentuk energi alternatif terbarukan yang ramah lingkungan, merupakan etanol (C2H5OH) yang merupakan hasil dari proses fermentasi gula dari biomassa yang mengandung pati menggunakan bantuan mikroorganisme. Dalam proses konversi biomassa menjadi etanol, fermentasi berperan mengubah glukosa yang dihasilkan dari proses hidrolisis menjadi etanol. pH dan suhu merupakan faktor yang penting pada proses fermentasi karena menentukan kondisi pertumbuhan Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Pada penelitian ini, terdapat dua faktor dalam proses fermentasi yaitu pH dan suhu fermentasi. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial yang tersusun atas 2 faktor yaitu pH dan suhu fermentasi pada waterbath. Faktor I (pH) terdiri dari 3 level yaitu 4, 5, dan 6. Sedangkan faktor II (suhu fermentasi) terdiri dari 3 level yaitu suhu 30, 33, dan 36°C sehingga diperoleh 9 kombinasi dengan 3 kali ulangan. Setelah itu dilakukan uji ANOVA.  Hasil uji etanol menggunakan metode Gas Chromatography (GC) menunjukkan bahwa hidrolisat dengan pH 4 dan suhu fermentasi 36oC menghasilkan kadar etanol yang lebih besar dibandingkan dengan perlakuan yang lain yaitu sebesar 0,1352%. Sementara untuk kadar etanol terendah yaitu pada perlakuan dengan pH 6 dan suhu fermentasi 30°C yaitu menghasilkan kadar etanol 0,0678%. Nilai kadar etanol cenderung menurun seiring dengan meningkatnya nilai pH. Sedangkan nilai kadar etanol cenderung meningkat seiring dengan meningkatnya suhu fermentasi.
